Baritone Theodor Carlson has performed in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland. Theodor is known for compelling interpretations of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Richard Strauss, and Wagner's operatic roles. His Zurich opera debut launched a distinguished career, notably as The Flying Dutchman in Dame Gwyneth Jones’ acclaimed production and as Verrina in the world premiere of Édouard Lalo’s Fiesque.

Carlson’s over 60 opera roles include title roles, the Flying Dutchman, Rigoletto, Falstaff, Macbeth, Zar Peter I, Don Quijote, Joseph Süß, George Danton, and Don Giovanni. Carlson appeared in Teatro del Liceu, Dallas Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Staatstheater Mainz, the City Theaters in Aachen, Hildesheim, Hameln, Lübeck, Kiel, Krefeld, Koblenz, Giessen, Heidelberg, Regensburg, Würzburg and Bremerhaven, and the National Theaters in Weimar and Mannheim. He has been featured in the Schwetzingen, Eutin, Gut Immling and Munich Biennale, festivals, and, Orchestras such as the Frankfurt Philharmonic and the Munich Symphony Orchestra have showcased his artistry.

Trained in the U.S. (Juilliard), Germany, and Italy, Carlson refined his operatic and Lied interpretations under Giuseppe DiStefano and Brigitte Fassbaender. As a concert soloist, he performed at the Zurich Opera House the Baden-Baden Festival, Wiesbaden Kurhaus, Eurogress Aachen, Heidelberg Castle, and Alice Tully Hall. He toured Germany with performances of Schubert’s song cycle, Die Winterreise. A champion of contemporary music, Theodor created operatic roles, CDs, and films with composers Gian Carlo Menotti, Detlev Glannert, Siegfried Matthus, Helge Jörns, Thilo von Westernhagen, Hans Zender and Leroy Jenkins.

Carlson has offered voice instruction, stage directing, masterclasses, Schubert and Mozart seminars, lessons in diction opera, and art song interpretation at the University of Arkansas and the Rockland Conservatory in New York,  El Musical Conservatory in Bellaterra, and Colegio Alemán in Barcelona. In Dallas, he was the Artistic Director of the art song concert series Voces Intimae. Theodor was a mentor-artist for the Dallas Opera Institute for Women Conductors and was an Associate at Collins Classical Agency in Dallas.

 Carlson was featured in studio and location- radio and television broadcasts of the orchestras from, WDR-West Deutsche Rundfunk, Sud West Rundfunk, ARD, DR- German Radio, RTL- Radio Television Luxembourg, Live Fox network-Television, and WUOM/WVGR-NPR live studio recital broadcasts.
