"I am pleased to write this recommendation for Theodore Carlson, my daughter's classical voice mentor/ trainer for over a year. We met Theodore through our church and could not have been happier with his acquaintance and gentle and knowledgeable guidance of our daughter in her pursuit of classical singing. Sofia was a Junior in high school when her training started with Theodore and had already been the lead in several school musicals. She now attends the Classical Voice program at Florida State University, having received a talent-based scholarship from the school to attend. We credit Theodore, in addition to Sofia's hard work and dedication, with that success. Theodore assisted Sofia in refining her voice and preparing for her Conservatory entrance exams, which she had in the United Kingdom and the USA. He helped with all levels of that preparation, including coaching the video and live auditions and spending hours and significant emotional investment in her selection of songs, poise, and presentation. He even volunteered to accompany our family to the final filming of her video audition, showing his professional investment in our daughter's success and his emotional investment, care, and generous cultivation of seeing her dreams come to fruition. Theodore's multi-lingual technical and interpretive voice lessons to Sofia (German, French, Italian, and English) spanned from initial evaluation of her skills to create an individual plan of training based on her needs and constant monitoring in both her Classical and Broadway-Musical performances. Throughout this process, Theodore kept me frequently up to date, with individual chats, emails, and even sending me, as her parent, articles to read and musical links to watch so that I might adequately guide my daughter. Theodore, furthermore, encouraged Sofia to ensure balance in her life between her studies, music, and social time. “I highly recommend Theodore Carlson as a voice teacher. My daughter, Bryn, has had a few different teachers that helped a bit with her desire to sing pop-style music. However, she was not learning the skills to hone her vocal instrument in a way that would allow her the control and strength I knew she was capable of. When we moved to NWA, we searched for a voice teacher, and Theodore was recommended. Honestly, my daughter was not thrilled about learning "opera," but I was excited that she would learn the skills needed to excel in any music she chose. It only took one lesson to realize what she could learn and how she could excel. Now, she loves to sing the Bel Canto style and appreciates the steady progress she is making. Our son, Boston, has been a voice student of Theodore for over a year, and I can't recommend him enough! Boston desired to study classical voice and, in the future, be an opera performer. I had no previous knowledge about how to support that dream. Thus, I contacted a music faculty member at the University of Arkansas, requesting a voice teacher recommendation. They gave me Theodore's information. Boston started training with Theodore as a junior in high school and has just completed auditions at nine leading classical voice collegiate programs. Theodore helped Boston improve in every aspect of his voice, performance, and diction in various languages. Theodore walked Boston through every step of the college audition process, including school selection, song selection, recommendation letters, recording and accompaniment arrangement for pre-screening videos, audition preparation and training, performance readiness, and more. He would also call Boston after every out-of-town audition to get an update on how it went and provide valuable feedback. Theodore has become Boston's teacher and mentor, constantly cheering him on, helping to improve, and guiding him to reach his goals. As a parent, Theodore has kept in close contact with me on Boston's progress and provided ideas for various ways to help Boston along his journey. Theodore is a fabulous teacher. He did a fantastic job working with my voice and developing my range and technique safely and comfortably. I came out of his first lessons amazed at what my voice could do. He is a great technician and vocal coach. He successfully coached me through a recital and auditions to graduate school for a master's in voice. We dug in and did some excellent work during our lessons. I will miss having him as my teacher while in school, but I plan to return to him as my career develops. I highly recommend Theodor Carlson for anyone learning to sing to advanced singers needing coaching. You'll be in good hands."
